…. how does your garden grow?
Well ours seems to be growing pretty well this year it seems. All down to Mr H who has got to grips with the Dora borders – lots more flowers than last year – but is much more involved with knocking out an impressive veg patch. He had a good practice run last summer, and with specialist input from Ross the cottage garden expert, this year's veg is so far going great guns.
Slightly oddly it seems to involve the husband coming down the stairs and saying 'good morning my babies' – to the indoor plants, which are being grown in loo rolls, pots and under cloches. All on a messy table covered in soil in our lower kitchen. Good job we've got no visitors, looks a right bloody state. Tomatoes, basil, runner beans all growing from seed, and some unknown holiday seeds – god knows what they might turn into. Might be a sign of too much lockdown, but with his morning chats they are growing well!
And then he's off out to check the outdoor babies – all planted and protected under the green netting – so far no fox action and only a couple of Scrumpy visitations, earning her a telling off. Rhubarb, asparagus, purple sprouting broccoli, garlic, new potatoes, carrots, lettuce, runner beans (in a while) and even sprouts for the autumn/winter – I do like a sprout tree on Xmas Day…
Scrumpy is less excited by all this – she just waits patiently for her ball to be thrown off the terrace for her – mostly in the sun-basking-upside-down position on her preferred door mat..
