So last Wednesday was the rather miserable day – for us and for Scrumpy – as it was time for her to have her second femoral her d& neck excision. Basically removing half her hip bone on the left side, having had the same op last year on her right side.
She had two nights in at Fitzpatricks (the 'Supervets' in Godalming) and it was a huge relief to get her back last Friday. She however, is none too chuffed to now be confined to a large crate while the pseudo-joint starts to form. Basically, it somehow magically knits itself back into a strong position, despite half the bone being missing, such that she will – all being well – be able to run and even jump again in a few months' time.
But for now, she is heavily shaven, right down to 2 inches into her tail, so looks a bit odd. Smells less than lovely as somehow going in and out of filthy ponds keeps her smelling pretty good nearly all the time, but she now has that 'post-op pong' that humans get too. And she is def less than impressed that she is mostly in her crate, being annoyed by the cone of shame, recovering slowly, just coming out for loo breaks and 100 yard slow walks on the pavement, bits of physio and the odd ice pack on her haunch.
Still, we are into week 2 now and maybe soon she will stop squeaking and making it very clear that she's not loving the whole thing. Poor little sausage – Mummy's coming now for a cuddle x
