So, having been on the receiving end of multiple not-needed but well intended government food parcels in the first lockdown, it felt like a nice idea to try and get on the other end of the food bank lifecycle. So H and I have joined something called DLAG – a not very natty name for a charitable group of people, started by the Wimbledon Dons football supporters, to try and help out people in need around the borough.
Hence we found ourselves a couple of weeks ago now standing outside Waitrose in Wimbers, manning the food bank table. Which became a jolly amusing game of trying to catch the eye of people going into the shop, with the hope that they would drop something off on the table on their way back out again.
Quite nicely surprising how generous people are – mostly the women, it has to be said – and we even scored a laptop being dropped off by one kind soul, to be regifted to a household needing it for kids schooling at home.
Quite enjoyed it – so much so that we are back there this Thursday from 11-2pm if anyone is passing! Suspect it will be a darn sight chillier this week, and that my back will dislike 3 hours of being stood still as much as it did the first time, but here's hoping we rack up plenty of scoff for the Xmas boxes. At least it's a good use for the many pairs of blue gloves in the garage! x
