Hawkes Family Picnic

Managed to pick a decent April day for a long awaited Hawkes family get together. Mr H had planned a sort of treasure hunt walk – basically a walk with 20 clues to look for en route, quite a good way to keep the nearly 12 year old great-niece (eek!) Izzy engaged with the 6 olds – me & H, H's brother Tim & wife Mel and Izzy's parents (Tim's son and soon to be official daughter-in-law if their wedding AT LAST goes ahead, 4th time asking due to covid delays, this September).

But back to the walk – actually quite a good idea (despite me having been not at all keen on what I thought was going to be 'find an oak leaf', 'ask for a straw in the local pub' type of hunt). Instead, teaching on house beams, bench arms, inside abandoned phone boxes, on a windmill etc etc for written clues, that you then put onto a grid – or rather, encourage Izzy to do, as the youngest Hawkes.

Punctuated by a nice pub drink at the start, some pigs and a windmill in the middle and a picnic at the end. Tim & Mel on their sausage-roll-looky-likey vegan fare and the rest of us swapping nibbles.

Really good to see everyone properly face to face, especially the Gloucestershire three who were meant to come for Boxing Day last year, before Xmas was then cancelled.

And now only a few months till wedding date number 4 – surely, this time lucky and Kerry-Anne will finally become another Mrs Hawkes. (Lucky her!!)
