An odd title, to be fair. But fitting for our 1-nighter away a couple of weeks ago now, to sunny Worthing (well, almost), making the most of managing to get all three of us together before the Helens start back at school again.
I found a candle making afternoon to keep us entertained – and actually it was really good! Just the three of us in a little craft studio, pouring wax beads into a hot pot, stirring it round, adding our candle colour of choice (the purple was a bit pale, and rather reminiscent of loo cleaner) and then dripping in essential oils that we liked the smell of. (Did I really just finish a sentence with the word 'of'? My, how my standards are slipping..)
And as we made each silver tin candle, we added the last quarter to our layered candles and built those up. Emerging with 5-6 candles - the most for Vickery, determined to get her money's worth even if it meant stranding her car overnight on the wrong side of Worthing!
Very good value – £45 each for 3 hours, compared to the £120 pp I saw this for in London. Where we would not have had the fab meal we got at the CrabShack on the sea front, albeit in a howling rainy gale… Thank god for the excellent tent coverage.
Wandered the now sunny sea front the next morning, spotting a self portrait phot by Janine's brother Tim in an outdoor exhibition, even splashing a huge fiver between us to push 2ps in a pier arcade for old time's sake.. Great to see the girls and stay over in my first guest house since the Scotland bike odyssey.
Now I just have to actually light one of the candles and try not to burn the house down. We will see… x
