Had a belated Swight + Clarkie birthday outing/escuse for a few beers day yesterday. Toddled to Surbiton Hockey Club to watch their 1s Ladies play Wimbledon 1s in an attempt for Wimbledon to go up the the European leagues. Hundreds of people milling about and even had to pay a £6 entry fee – don't think anyone has ever paid a penny to watch me roll round the pitch…
Only a 1-1 draw which left Wimbers needing to wait for another team's result to see what fate awaited them. But – a good chance to sit in the sun with far too many beers and chinwag with old Wimbledon friends – Jo Close, Simon Close, Creedy, Hatch and Wardy, as well as Epsomites – Clarkie, Swighty, Nettie, Spuggy, Sionaid, Ruth, as well as nodding to a few Surbiton faces from about 35 years ago. Good to see a few are still going…
Then watched godson Jack, now 17, playing in Surbiton 3's in a good quality game, amazing how most of that team are under 20 but bloody good already… Went on with Hatch for dinner with her & Rich and Jack, at a cool little place called Hideawy on the river at Thames Reach, with Mr H dragging his sore back along in the car with Scrumpy. We are def getting old – all home by 9pm! Well, it had been an early liquid start… x
