I can't believe I'm actually writing this for real, it is still incredibly raw that we lost our very much loved Scrumpy this week. She had been being sick on and off for the last two months, but was happy and running as usual in between, and 4 vet visits hadn't revealed anything particular. They gave her a blood test, antacid tablets, an anti-sickness injection, an ultrasound, x-rays and finally diagnosed severe pancreatitis, but too late to treat her. She went into the vet hospital on Monday and, having had a stable night on Tuesday, she suddenly died on Wednesday morning.
We could not be more gutted. H flew home immediately from Sardinia – he was 3 weeks into his 2 month sailing trip – but was too late to see her. Both of us are in bits. We do know however that she could not have been more loved than she was, and that we were incredibly lucky to have had such a loving, fun, mad, obsessive, characterful, cuddly, food-robbing sweetheart of a dog beast. It would have been her 10th birthday three days after she died, we so wanted several more years of her amazing company, but sadly here we are.
Forgive me, it was too hard to pick the best of the best photos, so here are many of our little furry girl.
The puppy years – small, chewy, nibbly, super active, never learning to walk on the lead, annoying & adorable in equal measures..
Leading onto an adulthood of endless outdoors adventures – mostly with her tongue out.
A dog's life, by and in the water…with her Harrogate chums Libby & Macey, and always brilliant at photo-bombing a selfie.
Getting as dirty as possible… yet somehow hating the hose when it was time for a wash..
Hanging out & adventuring with her best furry friend, Flossy..
Giving the best ever cuddles, some the right way up and many in her preferred upside down position.. As well as the odd bitey-lick.
Always massively motivated by food – whether it was given to her or she was apologising for having stolen some.. The day she ate the stock cubes – one VERY thirsty, sicky, briefly regretful dog. Let alone the two giant Toblerones. The Frui & Nut bar hidden at Clarkie's house. The pork carcass after one of H's men's dinners. Ross's birthday cashew nuts. Violet's cake and retro snacks. Anything left unattended for more than a second..all fair game for a very good food thief.
And just being her beautiful, very very special self.. She took her two big hip operations literally in her stride and nothing stopped her.
Our hearts and home are emptier without her. A huge pile of love forever, in memory of our dog-dog, Scrumpy. x x

Oh Scotty, I’m so very sorry. Scrumpy was a very special dog-beast indeed. All the love to you and Hawkesy.
