Wow. That was a day that I absolutely never thought I would still be here to see. I remember Claire asking me to be Oliver’s godmother when he was born and Hawksey and I heading up to his christening in Hull not long afterwards.
It wasn’t long after that, that I was diagnosed with myeloma and with the original prognosis being 2-3 years of survival, it was highly unlikely that I would see him go to infants school, let alone juniors and anyone would have absolutely said that there was zero chance of seeing Oliver head into Senior school.
Yet here we somehow are. He is in the upper sixth, doing really well acadamically, with plans for university and is achieving lots in his varied sporting endeavours too. He is also a very tall young man! But I hadn’t realised quite how tall till we headed to his party with family, godparents and friends last weekend.

I LOOK LIKE A PYGMY next to him!!! Never has my 5 foot 7 above average height looked quite so minuscule next to an only-just-adult! Anyway – it was a really good bash, good to catch up with the people I’ve known forever like Claire’s twin brothers and Mum and he seemed to enjoy it, which was lovely.
Note to self though – stand forward of him by at least 2 metres in order to not to look like a tiny old dear next time!! x
