Just a quickie as in the office with 150 unopened emails in front of me… ah the joy! So naturally the best course of action is to ignore them all and whack out a quick mini blog.
We had a LOVELY TIME! Sri Lanka was fab in all regards – brilliant stuff to see, ranging from elephants a gogo to huge monitor lizards (right by the pool sunbeds, eek), cows being chased by hotel staff through the swimming pool area, mongooses (or is that mongeese?) pegging it through the breakfast hall, to cheeky chipmunks to the best of all – four snakes at the Amanwella, scaring Hawksey into running for his little lifey down the path back into the aircon indoors.
And of course Buddhas (Buddhae?) a plenty – carved, moulded, plasticked, sculpted, lying down, sitting up, fat ones, thin ones, bald ones, hairy ones, gold ones, painted ones, tatty ones, natty ones, old ones and new ones…. with a few Hindu gods thrown in to even up the karma balance.
And some corking beaches – from the crashing waves of Tangalla to the seemingly innocuous shores of lapping Unawatuna – with a set of rogue waves that took us by surprise as we walked the shoreline and soaked us totally, bang went my mobile and H's i-phone in one salty swoop. Arse!
And a lot of curry – happy Hawksey troughing it three times a day with me drawing the line at hot fish curry and yet more dall for breakfast. It really doesn't go with omelette no matter what they say… And chicken sausages… an affront against mankind or what!
And our driver was excellent – if anyone's going to Sri Lanka then he's your man! Very knowledgeable and nice chap, though haven't forgiven him for feeding me oodles of roasted garlic as we sat and drank Arrack (the local hooch) with him one eve – believe you me, when you're clinging onto the toilet bowl at 6am the next mornign, re-seeing the Arrack in all its glory, it really is a smell you can do without…..
Photos soon… better do some work! Sx
