Feckadoodle – Am I Coming or Going?!

Where am I? Oh this looks like my living room… I'm starting to wonder!

So – was meant to be going to Turkey last week and that got postponed – actually a blessing giving the traumas of getting in and out of airports in the piles of icy white stuff.

Then was meant to be going to NY last Sunday, which was looking fine, very cheery nice client (what a pleasant change!), time built in for a spot of shopping (natch)…. until I got this kind of rough feeling on my side…

Thought I'd knocked myself with my watch strap or something… then some little clusters of red marks popped up and I wondered if the cats had been having a scratch on me in the night…. then I remembered a post on the MMUK site which sounded just like what I was feeling – so for once I made the right decision to stop off at the docs on way home. And badda-bing, the Verdict: A delicious dose of Shingles.

So – was whacked onto anti-doodah drugs and told fine to go to work, even though internet says its contagious. Then came out in a small but all over red dotty rash so H dragged me off to Parkside on Sat morning to get it looked at. Cue a horrible 4 hours of being on the ward, feeling 'back in the world of hospital and pain', bit of an over-reaction, but god it felt real to me. Prof on phone saying 'if its adult chickenpox that can be life-threatening' (not the greatest phrase to hear!) and me saying 'shit I've got to go to the States tomorrow for work….'. Lots of worries about letting people down at the last moment, having new clients wondering what's wrong with me (clearly I try and avoid dropping the C-Bomb on clients where poss, so didn't want to blow my cover).

Fortunately Skin Doc was in the hosp, came up and said its shingles and decided I didn't need the three rounds of IV and overnight stay they'd been suggesting (good man!) and I was released. Cue buying of overpriced organic chicken and actually laughing in the street like a total looper… Good job the Southfields Nutter wasn't about – might have thought I was moving in on his patch…

Anyway – NY / States was good (crapola shopping though – guess its hard to feel good in clothes when you're covered in sores – and yes, I was wearing a layer to stop passing on the crusty joy), got back yesterday.

And got ready to turn my stuff around for a trip to Russia next week – until the client this morning decided that a change of approach needed (is swapping plans last minute as frigging contagious as the pox???) So, two out of three trips off so far, but 2 more at least in the offing for Feb…. or maybe not! We'll see…

Anyhow – does at least mean I can catch up on some serious socialising and cat bonding so they still love me more than H. Competitive, moi????!!!
