Cornwall

Aaahhh…. just had a fab weekend away with Hawksey in Cornwall.

Stayed at the Llawnroc Hotel (prize for those who can work out why it might be called that) in a miniscule hamlet without even a pub to its name. Hence necessitating us trogging off to the impossibly named Mevaggisey (Megavissey?) each night to bait the locals and snarf whatever the catch of the day was (obviously my good self excluded).

First major relief came at the beach on Sat when I discovered that my wetsuit would actually stretch far enough to zip up, always a tricky call after a year in the cupboard (for it, not me - I was in the fridge). H and I looking godlike as ever, albeit the gods of giant walruses, surfing the Polzeath waves and wiping out a few small children on the way. Stunningly sunny day, 18 degrees – not exactly your typical November weekend, so lovely. Met up with Soph & Keytes who were down there too, looking far cooler on their longboards than we two old gits on our body boards, the swines, I have no idea why we still hang out with people far, far more attractive than us.

And popped back (if you can call a hair-raising drive in the pitch black for 25 miles to get there, 'popping') to Fifteen in Watergate Bay, you know, the restaurant with the unruly yoof that Jamie Oliver trains every year to do cooking innit. Or rather his charity does, am sure our Essex chum hasn't set foot in there since their last batch of funky Fat Face uniforms got shipped in. But anyway – did battle with another lengthy and fattening tasting menu, and even I couldn't finish the final round of cheese, for fear of not getting the seat belt on for the roller-coaster drive back to our pad..

Hawksey in full 'show Scotty Cornwall' mode while we were down there, as he's a West Country boy, so we drove all over the place, ending up walking over the clifftops to Land's End. Where of course, modern consumerism is in full swing, and you now have to pay £15 or so to have your photo taken right next to the Land's End sign. Hence various couples in puffa jackets looking much like us, trying to zoom in on the sign from the 'free' area. Happy days!

Anyway, photos to follow as I am in my usual technical quandary – using work laptop to type this, but it doesn't have a slot to put my camera memory card into, so can't upload photos directly into here. And no I haven't got the clever wire that will link the camera to the laptop, although I do of course have about 20 other unexplained bits of cabling and wire, whose purpose entirely eludes me.

And of course Home laptop has decided its got the hump and won't connect to the internet. And I've left my memory sticks at work so I can't get the photos into the home one, and transfer them into this one. All this has taken an hour of computer frustration – how many of those do we all have per year? And how many miles of unknown wiring do we all have in our homes, that we don't dare throw in case they magically one day stand up and say 'I'm the one that will connect your X to your Y, yer divvy'.

Tedious – and means this post will be photo free till I'm in the office next week and can sort it out!

Till then pop pickers… Sx
