It’s a miracle

In the space of barely 10 seconds, we are now home. Ok, so I couldn’t get last nights airport post to send, grr, so now you can have two for the price of one.

VERY nice to be home, Mum delighted to see us, Mojo is pleased with the paper bag we left on the floor, which she is now asleep in, and just a marathon of washing to be done.

To avoid it, have just spent an hour packing mums old photos into her trunk, including a fantastic cardboard concertina pull out story of mums life that my grandfather made for her in 1969, of her first 40 years. I make an appearance on the second last page, very chuffed to be described as ‘gorgeous’ while Cathy is ‘the ugliest baby in the world’. Unlucky sis!

Also her old psychologist paraphernalia, tests of sub-normal children, not that you can use those terms these days, funny little cartoonlike cards to assess mental capability. Reminds me of the black and white pattern blocks she used to test me with as a child. They lived in the tatty cupboard by the backbdoor, with the cat food. Funny what you remember…

And also all my dads love letters to her, from the late 1940s and early 50s, tiny spidery handwriting on curled cream bits of card, and some amazing old Valentines cards that should be in a museum, lovely old things. All made only slightly less sweet by the fact they are side by side with some from an Alan and a (right) Herbert!! The old minx.. 82 now but very definitely young once….
