So then, managed to see virtually every other women's hockey team in the Olympics bar Team GB so far, despite the law of averages suggesting that GB should have been among the tickets haul at least once. Quite nice to see the Clogs the other day, with my second nationality 'hat' on, but still not quite the same as the home team.
But hurrah hurrah – the magical Sarah Kelleher has come up trumps with two tickets for me & the hubby to this evening's Semi-finals vs Argentina. Oh yes its Las Malvinas all over again, and hopefully with the same result for us on the hockey pitch too.
Having been to the swimming the other night and seen the global pool-trotters Michael Phelps, Lochte etc and their very fine abdominals, you'd think a hockey game wouldn't be half as cool. But am v excited as my mate Beth is the GB Goalie and is playing tonight. The one and only time I'll know someone in the Olympics, and probably the last time she'll get to play as she's a – ooh very old – 32 now.
Went on tour with her a few years back – hysterical – and she lives (or used to, before she moved back to the UK for full-on Olypmic prep) near my sister Cathy in Utrecht. So we've had a few beers and bitterballen (plates of lardy Dutch mush dipped in mustartd) when Hawksey & I have been trawling the canal side streets in search of a Heineken or two, and it's well cool – quite frankly – that the bird has held her place, recovered from injury and will be strutting her funky goal-mouth stuff tonight.
Fingers crossed that they win. GO TEAM Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!
