And hockey season begins….

Blimey – anyone else noticed that its got cold and September has somehow vanished like Scrumpy after a squirrel? We've even had to turn the heating on – no mean feat these days since Hawksey turned the system from a one switch On/Off paradise into a Krypton Factor of tiny floor-level programmable mini screens (or 'Cat TV's as they've amusingly been re-named) and cunningly hidden twiddly things, without which heat remains more than a sigh and a wish away..

Which also means that it must be the start of hockey season. And my side, Aces, having been officially relegated down a division last year (due to some majorly unfair removal of points as we didn't have the 'right type' of umpire), has been thrown back up into that league again due to an unexpected  rejigging of all the teams throughout Middlesex. Long and short – havng moaned about going down, then realising we'd probably win everything all year which perked us up – we now have some tough games ahead!

Fortunately, some fantastic recruitment (Claire White & I on the case) has resulted in an AWESOME team of practically all my mates. Hurrah to Fitz joining! And to Hatch now being up for playing more games this year! And to Nicky A who knows hockey makes just far more sense than long endless bike rides on a Saturday. And maybe to Sophie (who's keeping a bit quiet so far, here's hoping you're not defecting back to Spencer), as well as all the existing top banana people in our team.

So even if we lose occasionally on the pitch, by god will the teas and falling-over drinks be the best in the league. Over 40? Is SO the way go to.

It's Hendon & Mill Hill tomorrow at 10am – be afraid, be very afraid…. and if all else fails, it's hot roast chicken & baguettes, followed by Hatch's birthday cake, for teas.

Go the Aces girls!
