Fi & Rich chez Hove

Had a great weekend with the wondrous Fi McNae and Rich, down at her gaff in Hove. It was billed as a belated 'Hawksey's Birthday Weekend', complete with a fabulous powerpoint print off of all the planned activities for the full 48 hours!

We managed to yomp our way through most of them – beers in the Lanes and a brilliant Mexican feed on Fri, a walk to the beach for the dogs (Bob grumpily but gradually accepting Maddie's youthful exuberance), one of the best brunches I've ever had at Oeuf – my choice of the Hashinator speaks for its artery-busting self.

Onwards to the Cricket Ground for the Sussex vs Gloucs match – complete with blue hats and 4 /6 cardboard signs to wave (on the rare occasion when Sussex scored. Several golden ducks were spotted..). Bought my much loved Saturday paper but didn't get a second to read it as we were off up the i360 in Brighton (more commonly known as the Cock Ring given its shape and location…). Surprisingly it was quite good – top views of the South Downs and the coast, plus an onboard bar for the boys who seemed thirsty every half an hour all weekend..

Drinks in the garden then a fishy dinner at Riddle & Finns – still recoiling from the waitress bringing the langoustine starter saying 'oo's 'avin' the langos then?' I am SO middle aged… but at that rather eye-watering price they are definitely 'langoustines'!!

Somehow – phew – we didn't;t quite have the energy to hit the Club that has a 'Party Like It's 1985' night once a month. Would have been good but it didn't open till 11.30 and by that point the sofa, coffee (and brandy for the boys, choc for the girls) were beckoning – loudly.

All finished with a huge Sunday fry up, a walk by the river and a pint in the pub before we headed home and poor Fi * Rich went back to pack more stuff as Fi's house is on the market and the estate agents were due in the week to take the 'look, no clutter here, seeeeee the amazing space' photos.

SO good to spend some proper time together – next weekend is in August – and it's Glyndebourne this time!!! Help meeeeee….. x
