Twas all a bit grey but still good

So, yesterday had an Added Value awayday thingummybob, starting at the National Theatre, nipping via a sandwich emporium and thence heading as a nice surprise…. up The Shard. As per the usual Law of Sod, the weather that had been really good up until – oh yes, yesterday itself – turned grey and foul, and sadly the Shard's impressive height was it's own downfall.

It transpires that it's so damn tall that when the clouds descend, the top is above them so you can't actually look outwards, but only downwards – and the view of the nearest train station's roof and some roof piping just isn't quite the same as the London skyline.

Not to worry – we mercilessly taunted those with a fear of heights (who were very amusingly walking round the central core of the Shard, looking longingly towards the internal lifts, and going nowhere near the windows at the edge even though you couldn't see diddly) and then headed off to spend some AV-donated wedge in Borough Market, and then – of course – onwards to the pub. Good to see a 4.30pm beery start didn't daunt the youthful masses, who were still in there at 10pm when I took my scotch-egg-fuelled leave..

A good day all round! S
