H and I went to see Dr Khoo this week, for H's regular three-monthly consultation. We hadn't thought it was a big occasion – H's 5 years since diagnosis is this November, so we were more bated breath for that one when it comes.
But Khoo took us by surprise – with a big smile on his face. In a nutshell, he said that on diagnosis H had only a 15-20% chance of getting to the health position he is in today. The disease was then already outside his prostate, in the seminal vesicle and pelvic bones.
So it was FANTASTIC to hear that he is somehow – rather miraculously – on the 'best' track that a person can be, at this point. Not out of the woods yet – there's certainly no mention of 'remission', let alone 'cure' as yet – but at least things are as good as they can be and the chance of either one or both those two mythical beasts is still somewhere out there. Maybe.
There's another 2 years to keep going down the track till Khoo might be in a position to offer us one of those very desirable words. And that's a while in the crappy world of cancer, which can obvs bite you on the ass any time, especially when you least think it might do. But – we were delighted to hear Khoo's positive words and to be told 'you can make some longer term plans'.
We take every uplift with open arms, especially the unexpected ones!
A good Wednesday eve, we thought x
