Heeeeeeeelp!
One minute the sun finally comes out and we all breathe a sigh of relief that finally we can get our pedicures done and dig the three quarter length trousers out of the cupboard. Jeans, boots and black socks consigned to their various shelves and drawers, and probably unsuitably short shorts then resurrected in the vain hope that their bright colours will distract the eye from the increasing number of leg thread veins that someone has obviously tattoed on me during my sleep, as they can't possibly all be mine.
And then you wake up one morning and think – what's that weird feeling? Oh god – I'm actually cold.
Having tried throwing open every velux, bathroom window and even our Romeo and Juliet bedroom doors (ah if only they were that romantic in reality) – having decided that Mojo might not try and hurl herself to a feline demise from our top floor if we did so – and therefore we could actually catch a waft of air on a sultry humid summer's night – this morning it was… well, bloody chilly actually.
Normally our morning routine includes letting the dogbeast out for her morning evacuations and then leaving the kitchen doors wide open to release the heinous pong of her poop as this is carried ceremoniously to the downstairs loo and flushed away. Well, flushed in form if not in odour, man that stuff has an aroma that just keeps on giving..
But not today – the door had to be re-shut and breath held – as it is offically parky out there. I did check the Calendar in case I had stupendously overslept right into October, but no. It is still August apparently.
And here's hoping the Lakes perk up before we head up there on Thursday for a long weekend. Current forecast is 14 degrees (yes, that's a number I'd have prefereed to start with a 2) and honking down with the proverbial Northern wet stuff. Vicki and Tina are booking a lake canoeing trip and at this rate we may be filling up with water from above rather more quickly than any of us had imagined…
Fingers crossed for one more summer 'push' – preferably lasting till at the 27th Sept when we head off on our big trip (well, no-one said bloggers aren't a touch self-centred at times, did they?!)
Pack those layers kids – it's gonna be an on/off hot/coldy day.. x
