So, I know it's not cool, or trendy, or massively popular with pretty much anyone else, but I am willing to stand up and be counted.
I Love Billy Joel.
There, I've said it. Yep, the Billy Joel, song-writer, singer, piano player, serial marrier, of 64 year old fame and probably a fair bit of fortune. And whom I have cherished as my favourite artist since I was 15 and stayed up the night before my French O-Level to watch him on The Old Grey Whistle Test.
So you can only imagine my middle aged delight when I heard he would be coming over to the UK for the first time in 7 years to play a small venue – Hammersmith Apollo. Double delight then when Mr H managed to
secure 2 tickets on the proviso that I would invite anyone but him as he's no Billy boy.
Have to say – it was an EPIC gig. All the big tunes, including my tiptop favourite that I've heard covered in so many US piano bars (ah, here's to Rose's Turn, New York) and which couldn't ever be bettered than listening to the man playing it himself. The wondrous 'Piano Man', recorded on my phone forever. Many happy sighs…
Here are a couple of shots = mercifully few as I suspect only I will appreciate them! And cheers Janine for riding shotgun - I'd never have guessed you knew so many lyrics, you closet Billy filly.. I'll probably never see him perform again but man – this Tuesday night was just PERFECT.
