So, yesterday Mr H and I did our good little Christmas fairies act and hosted a slap up lunch for Mum and 6 of her friends. Ranging from Ken the Vicar and his wife, through to the wonderful Helga and Sidney who pick Mum up for church most weeks, to her old friend lovely Mollie whose eldest son Julian was in my brother's year, to dear Ruth – 94 years old and still does her own shopping, what a remarkable lady.
Ken (the vicar) did make me laugh – saying woefully that he wasn't anywhere nearly ready for Christmas – provoking the inevitable response 'but isn't this quite a big time of the year for you?!' Well, too good to resist, hey?
And they may be old but they can still pack away a good lunch! As H and I were cooking and clearing up we stayed lurking in the kitchen and held off eating any of the turkey etc until they were gone – which wasn't till 5pm! And there were only 2 parsnips left….
Still, it put a smile on Mum's face – they all loved her Christmas stuffing, hurrah! – and it was a nice thank you to her friends, whose help is much appreciated by us.
Here you go – 7 oldies having an early Christmas feast..
