Xmas 2013

'And so this is Christmas, I hope you ha-ad fun,

Another year over, and a new one just beg-u-un…'

Blimey – that all went pretty quickly, didn't it? I seem to be standing in my kitchen, waiting for it to heat up (we've been away for 4 days) and try and make the peeing down horror day outside seem somewhat less grim. Oh and the fact that I seem to be off running a 2 day workshop in a call centre in Milton Keynes tomorrow and Friday – what a fabulous start to a glamorous New Year..

Most importantly, Mojo is fine. Having left her with the food spinning device (delivering magic cat nuggets twice a day) and then in Al-up-the-road's tender care, she decided to exit her cat flap the minute we drove off, come and sit on the front windowsill and mew piteously in the endless rain. Cue our neighbours up the road alerting the chap next door that there was a cat in need of rescue, who actually caught her, read my phone number from her collar and called us – unhandily, when we were in Wiltshire, feeling like the worst cat-parents ever - to ask what to do. One bit of sorting with the keysafe keys later and Mojo was safely back in. Only for her to do exactly the same thing again 5 minutes later, the bleddy daft furball. We now owe next door a bottle of wine, need to get our keys back and also explain to Al that the cat food is the small brown crunchy stuff in the three carefully-labelled catsize mini pots left on the counter, with the days of the week on them on a post-it note… and not the massive random tub of huge dog pellets that he found and had actually been feeding her.

Aside from that palaver – oh, and the one about mum getting to Holland without the right tablets in her suitcase – Christmas went off well! Had Christmas Eve lunch chez the Whites, with lucky Mr H playing 'horsey' for the 3 kids, including godson Oliver.

Then Christmas Day home alone with the hubby and furries, then Boxing Day with H's brother Tim and wife Mel, including a trog on the Common with half of overweight Wimbledon.

Thence off to said hotel in Wiltshire – with lunch en route with the Nurses and Hannah's parentals – and on from there to J&R's cottage for a 2 night New Year extravaganza.

Both of us hoovering every bit of carbohydrate in sight – and some that where vaguely hidden – before we try and go 'carb-free' from this coming weekend.

A roast dinner or fry-up just won't be the same without roasties or toast, but needs must. And apparently I have to give up Diet Coke too which I suspect will be much harder than the bread and spuds – oh and crisps, my personal nemesis – ever could be.

So – making the most of these last few carb-filled days (apparetnly all the call centre can muster for lunch is drab sarnies so no starting the new 'lifestyle regime' till then – shame!)

Anyway – New Year is here, hope it's a cracker for everyone and here's to the rain stopping and some more good times starting v v soon x
