So – decided at New Year that we needed to get off our butts, especially on a Sunday night, when obviously they are usually glued to the sofa like extra determined limpets.
Hence we found ourselves last night, with the long-suffering Janine & Ross, in Guildford's Spectrum Centre Ice Rink watching the Guildford Flyers (I think?) vs Telford Tigers hammering their way round the ice after a puck.
Bizarre mix of fervent supporters all geared up in the long sleeved jerseys and endless badges, bemused parents making the most of the 'Kids Go Free' night and us – slightly lost people with London postcodes who weren't quite sure how it all worked and wishing we hadn't got seats quite so close to the maniac with the drum.
Actually – for a tenner apiece it was really good! Plenty of fisticuffs, not so cold in there that Janine's nose went red, three thirds in the game allowing for handy smoking breaks, lots of players getting satisfactorily slammed against the boards, and even a hotdog for Ross.
If you fancy a 'different' night out – it's worth a go!
