No – not for once, a delicious hog roast occasion (more's the pity) but instead a night away with John & Hannah Nurse to try out the latest opening in the range of Pig hotels (original one in Brockenhurst, think one now in Bath and maybe some others).
Spent the day poncing about the spa at Limewood with Hannah, who declared it the best she had ever been to in the UK – high praise indeed – while the boys were chasing and losing balls on the golf course. And then met up at the Pig, up on a grassy cliff bathed in sunshine overlooking Studland Bay – what a great location.
And then we CANED it…
Discovered they have a top notch gin bar, with a huge range of eclectic gins, most of which even I didn't know (and I make it my life's work, as you know, to lovingly fondle as many beverage bottles as possible..), as well as a cracking range of just about everything else interesting you could imagine. Add in a friendly and knowledgable (cute, blond, cougar-able, in photo) barman and Hannah getting steadily more ratted ('that's AMAZING' becoming the response to everything as the night wore on..) and it was a really good night away.
Food was fab – all the nice little touches that the more independent type of place offers (little milk churns for the morning milk, freshly baked banana bread, fresh poached pears, just-baked bread etc) and good staff plus nice walks to Old Harry rocks etc, and it's somewhere worth a revisit. Or maybe one of its other Porcine friends..
