Ever fancy stepping back in time for a quick taste of old England? Then look no further than a country show – in this case the Cranleigh Show that a few of us nipped to last weekend.
Among the highlights were…
The gundog judging. Quite nice dogs but a show-stopping winner of an outfit from the fella doing the honours in the middle of the ring. A stunner of a waistcoat and are those seriously socks?
The 'Meet the Sheep' session, with woolly hybrids introduced to full-on romantic Jason & Kylie music, as the offspring of two other breeds..
The donkey contest – mules eclipsed by the owners looking more like a Siberian tiger session or the auditions for Jane Austen… definitely a phase in tweedy teenage fashion wear that my life seems to have (luckily) bypassed…
And the terrier racing session – complete with mini wooden traps and a rabbit on a string. Shame I can't show you the double hay bale at the end where the rabbit disappears through the tiny crack between them – and every terrier then gets canine concussion trying desperately to chase it though solid hay..
And no, before you ask, that isn't Scrumpy tring to cheat her way in from the left - just her terrier body double…
All in all an entertaining day out - not quite as good as the full on County Show at Ardinglye so maybe we'll be back there next year, you just can't beat their scotch eggs and the Piggy Pranks competition….
