Given how sore I felt for the holiday, the underwater world became my restful retreat even more than usual. I spent many happy hours being weightless in the water, forgetting my sore old bones and chasing every poor fish and sea creature in sight, in pursuit of a decent photo. <\/p>\n

These are some of my faves..<\/p>\n

I think these are squid – were travelling in a fast moving pack of about 25, and I've only seen these in the BVIs before, so well chuffed to find some more.<\/p>\n

One of the two lion fish we saw – majestic and always remind me of the Robin Williams film, the Fisher King, which was one of my all-time favourites. You'll have to watch the film to see why..<\/p>\n

There are a lot of eagle rays to be found – practically every time we jumped in, one, two or even three would be swooping away elegantly with me somewhat less elegantly in hot pursuit.. <\/p>\n

Ditto turtles – probably saw about 8 underwater and several from the boat as they popped up to breathe. Just lovely and bizarrely friendly. <\/p>\n

And finally, found this leopard-print moray eel (suspect that's not its official name) trying to curl itself into a far too small bit of coral for cover. That was a very happy half hour of duck diving to try and persuade it to poke enough out for a half decent photo.<\/p>\n

All in all, lots and lots of underwater magic – plus the dolphins that were just too fast to photograph, and of course a million fish. Visibility was a bit dodgy (Maldives wins that hands down) but for sheer quantity and variety of critters, it was pretty darn good. x<\/p>\n
