Blimey all this medical stuff can move fast at times.<\/p>\n
I had a lumbar discography procedure on 16 Nov, where the chap discovered that one of my three vertebrae they tested was indeed a bit duff and something needed to be done about it. I would have potentially put this off till after SCT had my back not had a complete melt down last week, bloody painful and involving a lot of me clinging onto furniture and banisters to get around, while demonstrating my new natty crab walk, going sideways as it was easier than walking straight ahead.<\/p>\n
So it couldn't be put off – and I am now down to have a percutaneous infusion on 15 Dec. Yes, sounds more like a cup of dubious tea to me, but apparently it's where they will fuse 2 of the vertebrae together with some rods and screws, in an attempt to take the pain away. This procedure has a 65% success rate, so I'm v much hoping that for once I can be one of the two out of three that do get some relief from this, and not the third one that just ends up with metal in their back and the same old back pain…. <\/p>\n
What it does mean is:
a) 2 joyous nights stuck in Parkside on 15 and 16 Dec – some early practice for January's fun there
b) A bit of a buggeration factor in my run up to Christmas as recovery will be 2-4 weeks, so that's a pain in the ass. I am ordering Xmas prezzies online like a demon, as time is rapidly running out!
C) More annoyingly, a possible delay in my SCT if I don't recover quickly enough. There are various injections and cell-inducing things that have to happen pre-SCT which could be impacted on by the back op, it's associated drugs relating to my chemo drugs and my general state of health. Very much keeping fingers crossed I will be in the 2 week recovery camp or that I can somehow fool Prof into keeping the current dates in place…<\/p>\n
Will know around 20-22 Dec if SCT timings will stay on track. Hope they do.<\/p>\n
And here's to the new metalwork going in smoothly and doing its job. It's the last thing they've got to offer me in terms of a solution to the rather miserable lumbar pain, so I'm hoping Santa will bring me a nice happy back for Crimbo… Ah, go on Father Christmas, I have been a VERY good girl this year.<\/p>\n
