Ah yes, we didn't have the best start to the New Year, in the 54 Stroud Rd household.<\/p>\n
H & I were down at J&R's cottage, and were woken early by Katie, one of Mum's carers, ringing in a panic as she'd arrived to get Mum up & do breakfast, and Mum was unresponsive in her room. Not breathing properly (almost at all), had been sick etc etc. All this despite having been perfectly well the night before. (And of course she hadn't pressed her red emergency button.. Perhaps it had come on too quickly).<\/p>\n
Cue H&I driving like bats put of hell back from West Sussex, straight to St George's Tooting. 5 long hours there with Mum very confused, no idea who I was (said 'Cathy' at one point), firstly in Resus then Majors, then eventually a ward. I had thought perhaps she'd had another small or bigger stroke but infections in the elderly can also give rise to great confusion and disorientation. <\/p>\n
Bloody worrying, ringing Richard & Cathy to update them case the worst happened, while trying to get an update from the docs who are kindly to an 87 year old but also distracted by the twats who have fallen down pissed on NYE and dislocated bits of themselves etc (not great listening to the gas & air sucking, then shoulder re-siting howls of the knob in the cubicle next door). <\/p>\n
Anyway – she is HUGELY better. Having done my first day of cell collection in London I crawled to see her on a ward miles from the one we'd last been to, and she was like chalk and cheese. Sitting up, beady eyed, chatty 'everyone's SO young in here!', and 'the food is really excellent', albeit not quite knowing the truth – 'I've been in here 4 days now (actually 2), and I brought myself to Outpatients' (not quite remembering the ambulance ride is a good thing).<\/p>\n
Hoping she will get out in the next day or so – Rick is visiting today so will hopefully have more luck working out the original cause of collapse. But in the meantime, here's to the brilliance of antibiotics – they have peaked her up no end! x<\/p>\n
