A top three nights, down at the coot in West Sussex. Crossed over for a few hours with Stewart and Helen Macintosh and their boys, who'd been down here at a golf competition- very good to catch up though I'm not sure the allure of Thakeham Rocks, a night on the glebe, in the pouring July rain, watching local bands and eating hog roast, was fully their cup of warm ale.<\/p>\n

As ever, given that the Thakeham village event is only every two years, we duly wandered round the flower show in the church – some truly bizarre displays, one of which resembled the Grim Reaper, as well as a couple of full sized mannequins with toupees that had slipped, that were meant to be demonstrating the theme of wedding celebrations. Quite creepy. And then wafted our way round the Art Show (eek), the brik a brac stall, the over priced cake stand and that was it for day 1.<\/p>\n

But the big wow of the festival came this morning, the much-awaited Dog Show. Now bathed in full sun, there were about 50 dogs out on the globe, singing in for the various contests and eying each other up – owners at face level, and dogs mostly with their snouts in each others' butts. An easy win for 2 years' time would be to enter the Dog Fancy Dress class, as there were 6 prizes per class, and only two dogs were actually entered in this one. I still think the lion dog should have beaten the disco dog, but there's no accounting for the judge's taste.<\/p>\n

But little Miss Scrumpy came into her own again class 6 – the Waggiest Tail competition. All rather nail biting as there were over 20 entrants, including 4 spaniels….. but for the second time, she lived up to her name of 'prize-winning Scumpy' – and walked away with first place!!<\/p>\n

Mummy was rather pathetically pleased – one nice rosette, a squeaky toy and a bag of dog treats was almost worth it taking ages and breakfast finally hitting our plates at 12.30.. Well done little miss Super Waggy Tail, amazing how hissing 'shall we go for a wa-allk?' makes that tail whip backwards and forwards like greased lightning…. x <\/p>\n
