Mr H had planned to go up to Harrogate last weekend to do the (joyous sounding!) 38 mile walk through the 6 Yorkshire Dales with our lovely chum David, who retired this week. Massive congrats again Davlar on your escape!! But they both decided that it might actually be nicer to do the full monty in Spring\/Summer – who would have guessed? – so H went up there as planned anyway with Mads, and I headed down for sanctuary at the coot.<\/p>\n

Apart from the inevitable FOMO of wanting to be in two favourite places at the same time, the coot weekend was as cosseting as it always is – and has been for about the last 26 years that I have been foisting myself on J&R's hospitality. Where the hell does all that time go??!! This weekend's first surprise was one of Ross's monster courgettes – now I love a 'gette' but this was the full monster marrow. Best for beating off a burglar I reckon…<\/p>\n

Fri night was a real good surprise – I knew they had Chichester Festival Theatre tickets already, so I was primed for an evening on the sofa with Floossy. But getting one of the remaining very very few tickets to something called Redlands, about the house where the Rolling Stones were nicked for drug possession in the 60s. Not being a RS fan in the slightest I was pretty dubious, but it actually turned out to be one of the most fun shows Chi has put on, and even the aged audience was toe tapping and on their feet by the end.<\/p>\n

On Sat, J&I headed to wild old Horsham to pick up a few bits that she needed and then on to the much more entertaining Trenchmore Farm, about 20 mins away from the coot. Which was having its Autumn shindig, consisting of various stalls and – hurrah – the marvellous burger shack. Add a glass of their Silly Moo cider, which is the only cider I have ever liked, and a perfect lunch was had.<\/p>\n

Apart from me going through the humiliation of someone calling out 'Hi Scotty!' totally unexpectedly – me panicking as I didn't recognise her – and then even going so far as to call her the wrong name, why the hell did I do that? – ending with her kindly, but still embarrassingly for me, saying 'you don't know who I am do you?' Turned out is was a former receptionist at Parkside who I absolutely should have recognised – but I had no idea she now lived in Sussex and I haven't seen her for a long while. My cheeks are still burning as I type this…<\/p>\n

By the time we had fabulous lamb on Sat eve and a dose of Strictly, my equilibrium was just about back intact. Until J dragged me up Cissbury Ring on Sun morning, always a good view from the top but a bit of an effort to get up there! Funny how Ross always has something urgent to do in the garden when a hill walk is involved…<\/p>\n
