Whipped over to Northern Spain last week for 3 nights with Janine, before then joining the AV girls in San Sebastian for the weekend (see Part 2!)<\/p>\n

Talk about chalk and cheese weather – we arrived in unseasonal drizzle, nipped up into the mountains and found ourselves walking in the beautiful crisp April snow, and then came down to the valley on the other side and ended up sitting outside having salad in the sunshine just 2 hours later! Just a 20 degree difference in temperature – from minus 1 up top, to a balmy 19 degrees..<\/p>\n

Incredibly pretty and quiet up in the Picos de Europa at this time of year – and it fulfilled my long held desire to walk on snow as its been years since I gave up skiing (or it gave me up..) so that was a nice unexpected bonus.<\/p>\n

Bargain flight into Asturias\/Aviles – \u00a340 one way on Vueling – enabling us to drive and mooch round various old towns from Aviles to Oviedo, Leon, Riano, Santillana del Mar and a pop in to Santander which I wasn't keen on as the bank buggered up our mortgage application. Sweet shot below was taken by a Spanish old fella who slowly talked me through the origins of the female writer sculpture, most of which I really couldn't understand..<\/p>\n

And above, Janine outside the Gaudi house, me at the slightly less classy 6 gargoyles fountain and of course, the obligatory Capon\/chicken pic in the garden of one of our very nice (and oh so cheap!) hotels.<\/p>\n

Topped off of course with lots of eating and drinking – some good cocktails and a couple of ludicrous food things – this massive platter of 14 huge king prawns was – apparently – a starter portion for one person! I just had a mere 12 – yes 12 – scallops in garlic for mine, felt slightly short changed!<\/p>\n

An excellent three days – from whence we then went on to collect the rest of the girls in Bilbao.. See next post! x <\/p>\n
