Thought it might be (more than) time for a quick update on the House of Hawkes and two health-challenged bods that live within it.<\/p>\n
We're actually both pretty fine right now.<\/p>\n
I'm still in remission, having 3 lots of maintenance chemo a month, but there is a degree of flexibility with when these fall, so while it's a ball ache, it could be worse. Back to see Prof this Thurs so hope all will remain as per the status quo.<\/p>\n
H is doing well, to look at him, you'd think there was nothing wrong with him, apart from what looks like a bit of a savage Spring time haircut. His hair has thinned a bit but he's cut it back to a Number 1 to keep it looking normal-ish. And has grown a man beard (short one thank god) to stop his mates charmingly calling him Cue Ball at every opportunity.<\/p>\n
He feels a bit rough for a week after each treatment, but his second one was nothing like as bad as the first one (he ended up in St George's), so we plan nothing for the 5-7 days after each one and are packing in social stuff in between once his taste buds return.<\/p>\n
Thursday definitely heralds something that I suspect is not just new to us but to CCL (Cancer Centre London, what the Parkside oncology wing is actually called) as well. We have Couple's Chemo. Yep – we are both in on the same day. Me for the usual monthly 7 hour Dara special, and H for his 3 hours which he likes to drag out to include the free lunch. You couldn't make this shit up! Certainly didn't see this type of hot date coming when we got together 11 years ago – it's our anniversary of meeting too..<\/p>\n
Hey ho – luckily we are both 'normal' for 2 weeks of his 3 week cycle. H has got into doing th garden (his 'farm' as he likes to call his veggie beds) and we have more cos lettuce than you can shake the salad spinner at, currently. Potatoes due soon I am told..<\/p>\n
Anyway – that's us for now. Trips booked post his chemo to the Scilly Isles and then the week before radiotherapy starts (we think!) to Ile de Re. And lots of lovely weekends in between, we are very lucky.<\/p>\n
Fingers crossed we get the middle window bay at CCL with the two facing chairs on Thursday, so we can stare lovingly into each others eyes with an IV drip in our arms – not the most romantic setting to be frank, but if it keeps us together, and here, then suck it up we will.<\/p>\n
Bloody good job we're out for cocktails then eating steak at Hawksmoor tomorrow eve – think that might be the slightly more date-y moment for us both x <\/p>\n
