So this week saw yet another Dara chemo day at CCL – sort of same old, same old, but I realised that having started this regimen back in 2016, a year ahead of my last stem cell transplant, this particular Dara was the start of my 5th year of ongoing, never-ending chemo.<\/p>\n
Blimey. Five bloody years of back to back chemo. That is 48 lots of Dara and nearly 150 lots of Velcade, god knows how many blood tests and all the fannying and hours of waiting for Prof and treatments to arrive, that go alongside this fun, fun way of life.<\/p>\n
But at least it still is exactly that – a way of life. And somehow it is still keeping me going, five years into this way of trying to keep me in remission, and now into my 12th year of trying to live with Myeloma and all its magical impacts.<\/p>\n
Talking of which, I'm killing a bit of time post dog walk now, before I head into the Dark Side main hospital at noon for my back operation, which should go ahead around 4pm. My oh my, how grumpy will I be when this morning's early breakfast has fully worn off and the nil by mouth kicks in, along with the 'pull up your surgical stockings' game – never a great task with a back problem as it involves lots of bending and tugging. I'm sure it's a cosmic trick that you need these ludicrously tight things on in the first place.. And why do they have that really odd gap in the toe?? Still never worked that one out..<\/p>\n
Anyway, here's hoping that at the very least (which may be all I can expect from this op) that I wake up unscathed, apart from the 2 new tracks in my back where the chappie will have removed my various metallic screws and rods. Yes, the ones that were put in 3 years ago, which never made any improvement and which I am hoping do contribute to my current back pain and the spasm attacks. Although I am trying to manage my expectations as it is just as possible that taking them out will do exactly the cock-all positive that putting them in did… When there's only one straw left in the 'what we could do' pot, then all you can do is clutch at it even when you know it may do the square root of diddly squat.<\/p>\n
Still, alongside Mojo & Scrumpy I have got Miss Flossy Dog here for extra company this morning – she and Scrumpy have had a whale of a time on the common and now it might be time for Mummy to snatch a quick sip of water (when all I want is a nice cuppa) as that's it till post op later.<\/p>\n
