{"id":1969,"date":"2026-01-31T11:29:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T11:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/home\/?p=1969"},"modified":"2026-01-31T11:30:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T11:30:11","slug":"charlottes-18th-birthday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/home\/charlottes-18th-birthday\/","title":{"rendered":"Charlotte&#8217;s 18th birthday"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Somehow the small redheaded child next door who was one minute small and barely 11 has turned 18 this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Having already been scouted (twice!) by a major London modelling agency, she has now also managed to nail herself an offer from Trinity College Cambridge to study Law from this October, handily arriving the day before her big birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/C62CEA82-110F-44A8-9EE0-A22A1D676C72_1_105_c.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1971\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/C62CEA82-110F-44A8-9EE0-A22A1D676C72_1_105_c.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/C62CEA82-110F-44A8-9EE0-A22A1D676C72_1_105_c-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We were invited round to share the birthday celebs, and took the opportunity to hand over her gift from us &#8211; a bottle of tequila from Mexico and two massively classy cocktail mugs in the shape of Mexican Day of the Dead faces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/3833E3F6-6754-4700-B325-09478A1E0F37_1_105_c.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1973\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/3833E3F6-6754-4700-B325-09478A1E0F37_1_105_c.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/3833E3F6-6754-4700-B325-09478A1E0F37_1_105_c-225x300.jpeg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">H knocked out some scones &#8211; any excuse for yet more post-Xmas cream &#8211; and a slab of birthday cake was scoffed. A slightly sugary base on which to then head up to the Hand in Hand for the (now ritual, as we also did it for Char&#8217;s big sister Ellie) trip to watch her brandish her new legal ID and order us a pint each. Luckily she does get paid well for doing sports coaching int he local park, so we didn&#8217;t feel too guilty! (And we did palm her a magnum of rose plus a dodgy bottle of flavoured gin for her 10 chums coming last night for the teenage party&#8230;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How an 18 year old likes bitter is beyond me &#8211; at 57 I still can&#8217;t bear the stuff!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/889B89C0-B5A4-42F9-8ECD-10B0C35D9B12_1_105_c.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1975\" srcset=\"https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/889B89C0-B5A4-42F9-8ECD-10B0C35D9B12_1_105_c.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/889B89C0-B5A4-42F9-8ECD-10B0C35D9B12_1_105_c-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/scottysblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/889B89C0-B5A4-42F9-8ECD-10B0C35D9B12_1_105_c-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her Dad Rob reminded us that H &amp; I are no longer required to be their legal guardians in the event of something happening to him and Anita as the younger one is now officially an adult &#8211; though quite honestly the pair of them are supper impressive, hard-working, sporty talented youngsters so they&#8217;d have ended up managing us more likely&#8230;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And assuming Char gets the grades, it&#8217;ll be a perfect excuse to finally take H up to Cambridge &#8211; something we&#8217;ve talked about for 18 years and that I&#8217;ve never quite got round to! x<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Somehow the small redheaded child next door who was one minute small and barely 11 has turned 18 this week.
