<\/figure>\n\n\n\nThen it was the turn of Sarah & Paul Taylor to come over for an eve of catching up and excessive meat consumption – well, can you ever really have too much?! It was even warm enough to head down the bottom of the garden – which H then warmed much more with the chiminea on full blast – post food, making the most of these last weeks of being outside before dreaded Autumn sogginess sets in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We then headed off for a very random evening – watching a drone show at Sandown Race course with J&R. Which actually turned to be pretty impressive, with – we reckon – about 600 drones coming up from their charger bases, turning their lights out and then reappearing in huge form across the sky as all sorts of things relevant to the Four Seasons, which was being played by a string quartet throughout. Here just a couple of the images, but lots had movement like wings flapping or leaves crumpling and \u2018falling\u2019 to go with each of the seasons as they were played.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n And to add to the randomness, I got tickets for me & Mr H to go to a tribute band at the Half Moon pub in Putney. Somewhere that I haven\u2019t been since I was – oh blimey – in my early thirties? It heralded the very overdue realisation that tribute acts are in some ways better than the originals as they bang out all the big hits that you hope to hear, with none of the risk of \u2018here\u2019s our new album\u2019 or \u2018Dave will now do an acoustic\/jazz\/15 minute guitar solo version of X song..\u2019 The chosen band was a good one – the Human League (lookee-likies) – and the main bloke knocked it out of the park.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n It did coincide with the (planned after I\u2019d bought the tickets obvs!) arrival by car from Holland of Cathy & the girls, so we managed to open the door and welcome them in, before legging it to the tube for the show! Very good to see them all and to hear how Lily, at 17, has \u2018got with the programme\u2019 school-wise, is now buckling down to her A level equivalents, having done well in her GSCE equivalents, and apparently is keen to become a paramedic or work in A&E! Majorly impressive. Hopefully younger sister Daisy will catch up soon and also decide that school is a necessary evil and a means to an end, when it\u2019s mostly seen as just a basic evil at the moment\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Managed to drag them all out for a wander on the Common – mostly by promising an English breakfast at the Windmill Cafe at the end of it. Inexplicably, one doesn’t like bacon or the egg – but still wants the whole thing. Clearly, all rejected items were gobbled up by Cathy & myself.. Daisy even decided to drop the teen cool briefly for a dance with Hawksey – looking particularly resplendent in his Spiderman-esque BBQing gloves..<\/p>\n\n\n\n A lot of very nice ‘making the most of the last of the summer’ social stuff – and more to follow in my next post – assuming I manage to upload this one, my first effort on this new platform! x<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I\u2019m a whole month behind in my Posts due to the horror of the enforced move out of Typepad, so here goes with a whirlwind review of some of the lovely things that later August heralded!
