Blimey, can you adam and eve it - this weekend marked one year since I was diagnosed. One whole year, hardly seems possible. I guess quite a lot has happened in that time, as it tends to in a year, new jobs for some, babies for others (Claire & Jon, Liney, Nets and some besides), marriages (congratulations Davina & Guy on Sat), new homes (Soph, great you're now down the road), new partners ('Loves Young Dream', you know who you are), as well as probably the odd tattoo, getting arrested, someone's first foray into swinging (anyone up for claiming this one?) and who knows what else… all the things that make up a year. <\/p>\n
And its of course been a bit of a year for me & Hawksey. Makes me think back to sitting terrified and wide-eyed in front of Prof on Sept 12th 2008, when he explained that myeloma wasn't just some funny thyroid thing or a bit of advance osteoporosis making my ribs sore.. but a whole new ball game. I still find it incredibly hard to actually say the words 'I Have Cancer'…'Oh, And It's Incurable'. Almost feels like a terrible lie, something that couldn;t possibly be true. Had to go for an eye test last week and needed to mention it, was worse than saying 'by the way I've got chlamydia' (which I haven't in case you're wondering, thats definitely not a side effect of MM!) Weird how those words can terrify you, even now when I wake up at night, its still the first thing that shoots into my head, as I decide whether its worth getting up for a pee or waiting till the alarm goes off. The most abnormal thing mixing with the most normal..blurgh.<\/p>\n
Anyway – Prof was at least right when he said that the world would look a whole lot better a year down the line. We are so lucky that things are good at the moment – even working full time is a blessing, and I never thought I could honestly feel that way. Even lying here on the sofa as I am at the moment (got the bottom-exploding sickness bug this weekend when my sis & little niece were over from Holland, nice) just the smallest things are a pleasure. Reading the Telegraph. Stroking Conker & Mojo. Putting hand cream on. Hearing Hawksey's key in the lock. Getting a text. Swimming in our whopping bathtub. Clean sheets. Sneaking a bag of crisps. If the garden was in bloom, I'df probably drivellingly say 'smelling the roses'… but most of it smells of cat poo. <\/p>\n
Anyway – One Year pop pickers. Onwards, upwards and probably loo-wards shortly, if this bug has anything to say on the (fecal, sorry couldn't resist) matter.<\/p>\n
