So – yesterday heralded the annual geting together of the Scott adult children to celebrate Mum's impending 81st birthday on Tuesday. Moi, big sister\/pig blister and the bearded God-bothering brother all round at my house plus various other halves and former neighbour, for a cracking Hawksey-produced rib of beef. Mmmm delish.<\/p>\n
However – late arrival of the bearded brother on doorstep heralded a large surprise – in the form of his massive great labrador, Tess (full name: Tessa Stinks), who was apparently also coming for lunch. Took me by surprise so much that I actually closed the door in his face before re-opening it find, yes the eejit had indeed brought his whopping great drool hound with him – always a briliant idea in a house with two resident cats.<\/p>\n
Cue careful manouevering of slobbering canine into the back garden, removal of back door keys from small niece Lily who kept trying to let Tessa back in, and hopeful solving of problem…<\/p>\n
Until, of course, the moment came when poor unsuspecting Mojo, sauntered through the kitchen, heading for a spot of fresh air or a wee – and stuck her head through the catflap as she has done thousands of times before – only to be met by a monstrous wet dog snout being pushed back in the catflap, trying to be friendly. Roughly the equaivalent of us opening the front door, to be faced by a giant snarling troll on the doorstep….<\/p>\n
Result? One utterly terrified Mojo, never having seen a dog before, let alone one on the other side of the catflap… the fastest ever, nails-dug-into-the-floorboards squealing run through the house to a safe refuge behind the sofa, where she stayed for the next 4 hours, with huge green saucer eyes fearfully blinking out. Conker, luckily, remained blissfully unaware on our bed, having not deigned to gift us with her presence at all while guests were round.<\/p>\n
Lots of stroking now required for our very very scaredy cat – and one brother back in the 'doghouse' (geddit?) for being a numpty yet again… Sx<\/p>\n
