Sitting in our upstairs living room, listening to major drilling downstairs and starting to think I'm going to have to go a lot more on my non-working days than I had thought! Mojo is cowering in the corner looking very unimpressed and I'd like a cup of tea but it involves emerging into the dust cloud and I'm not quite desperate enough yet.<\/p>\n
Having said that, I feel pretty guilty as I'm actually watching a TV prog on the Twin Towers, one of the many being shown now that it's the 10 year anniversary. This ones about twins – they think about 40 sets of twins lost their twin in the twin towers disaster…. shows how many people died I guess as that's a high number. Makes a bit of house dust seem a bit insignificant really, those poor bloody people.<\/p>\n
Funny isn't it how we carry on our normal lives when so much shit happens around the world. In a minute I'll turn this laptop off and go onto the one with all our wedding photos on it, pinging a few more to the official photographer to add to our album and then starting to sort the best of the best out for a photobook for us. But the pain for the people who died in NY won't go away for their families. The kids in the TV ads will still be dying, 2 a minute in Africa. More decent people will die of cancer and other stuff that they didn't know was in store for their unfiarly shortened lives. And there's not much we can do about it, apart from 'keeping on, keeping on'.<\/p>\n
This isn't a sad moment, it's just a – pretty obvious - observation of how the world goes round. A bit like one of those game show spinning wheels where the arrow might land on 'live happily ever after' or 'win \u00a31 million' but also has slots for 'have your life turned upside down' and 'watch out, the shit is about to hit the fan'… and no-one can ever know which arrow has their name on it or when the wheel is about to come to a stop on it.<\/p>\n
So in the meantime what do you do? Keep on keeping on is the only way. Suck the best out of every day. Don't leave stuff for another day, another week or year. And for me, maybe do slightly fewer bloody chores (man these suckers are endless) and perhaps make today the day I go out and do something to mark the week, maybe go buy my 15 Years at Added Value present – a globe – and haul it home on the tube.
