Just back from three nights in our snug cottage on Skye with Janine and Ross for Hawksey's birthday. One particularly fab sunny day, yes honestly, which heralded the boys heading masterfully off on the Brigadoon boat for a half day fishing, and returning 5 hours later with one giant pollock care of Mr H and a rictus grin of 'yes I had a good time really' courtesy of Mr C who hadn't caught diddly, the poor sod, and had spent the whole trip trying to work out what the hell George the Jock skipper was gurning on about.
\nIn the meantime, J and I hoofed our way up The Old Man of Storr, ok halfway up, for anyone who knows us too well to believe we're have actually made it past the stick-wielding striding Germans, manfully heading for an unnecessarily distant summit. Sun on faces, great views over lochs and the sea and enough fresh air all round that we were all in bed by 10 pm. Wild crazy kids that we are.
\nSaw lots of grey seals, including some looking very quizzically at us humanoids, and not a single bloody otter, despite scanning every shoreline and wet cranny for the elusive slippery swines. Even fell for the 'oh you need to check out the otter slide at sunset' line from some pisstaking local, what a bunch of mugs we were, otter slide my ass.
\nBack now, three bottles of nobby whisky and two wine in the luggage miraculously intact, which is more than can be said for the haggis crisps, probably a lucky escape hey? And just finally opened H's birthday presides to top off the weekend nicely. Ok, so the dressing gown's too small, the posh shirt is only just borderline right and the espresso martini premix won't be as good as a real one, but at least Mojo loves the ribbon from the box……
