Well, its been a wild first 10 days back at home.<\/p>\n

Day 1 – back to CCL, where AT LAST we no longer have to wear a mask to go in for chemo. There's a nurse called Leshay who has been working in the chemo suite for 3 years and this was the first time I've seen her whole face. Slightly weirdly, the bottom half of her face isn't at all what I was expecting as masks make you think the face is a whole different shape to what it actually transpires she looks like. But, nice to finally see everyone again and to not have to wear those dang things any more. Bless all the staff for persevering for so long and for now being able to be 'back to normal' again. Back in March 2020 no-one would have believed out would take years to finally get here.<\/p>\n

Day 3 – Into Parkside main hospital for my 6 monthly bone marrow biopsy. Which is taken from my right hip area just off to the right of my spine, pretty much where I've been having back tweaky pain for a while now. So that took a few days to settle down, probably not hugely helped by me digging out three huge garden bags full of weeds, grass cuttings and general garden crud at the same time. The usual 'hot bath and a night in bed' routine doesn't quite seem to have settled it down, so it'll be interesting hear what that shows up.<\/p>\n

Day 4 – back to CCL again for the next chemo round, nothing thrilling to report. Always best to go there in the afternoons when it's so much quieter – think I was actually in a nd out within 45 minutes, not even enough time for a cheeky nap in the reclining chair..<\/p>\n

Day 8 – back to CCL for round 3, again, all fine and good to get them all out of the way for this month<\/p>\n

Day 10 – Into the massive Pet CT van this morning for the 6 monthly PET CT scan. Bloody freezing as usual and you have to wear nothing with zips or metal, so I foolishly went in a t-shirt. Got covered in a metallic sheet thingy like they have at the marathon, the days even a blanket that gets re-used are over. You do at least get a free sarnie at the end as it's nil by mouth for 6 hours beforehand, so at least I chomped that before heading into Wimbers to have an unexpected 'power hour' cuppa with Fi McNae, who was in town for a client meeting.<\/p>\n

All – luckily – interspersed with catching up with a few people, a nice lunch with Curly at the new Rosa's Thai at the foot of the hill, a lovely sunny weekend at the coot and crazy middle aged trip to the garden centre, some litter picking and a cuppa on the common with Jo, George & Clarkie, and a supper with Nicky & Sophie in Windsor to catch up etc. I even made it back to walking hockey after 7 months (!) of bloody annoying plantar fasciitis, so hoping that stays away and I have a chance at even a small bit of (much needed, good grief) exercise.<\/p>\n

Also went to see Guys & Dolls at the Bridge Theatre next to Tower Bridge – fantastic show, really impressive.<\/p>\n

And of course much bonding with Miss Mojo, who showed her displeasure at me going to the coot by crapping in 7 places, mostly in and around the hall, leaving one of her two cat boxes entirely untouched in her desire to protest poop and leave me very clear that she was not best pleased.Good job I really love that cat..<\/p>\n

So – pretty much all back to normal for me.<\/p>\n

Hawksey has finally – yes finally – left Chiclana this morning, picked up Jules en route at Seville airport and they are now ensconced in the gorgeous ancient city of Salamanca, which I've always wanted to visit. Heading eventually to Santander to catch the ferry back to Plymouth (yes, no dog crossings available to anywhere handier than that, despite booking many months ago) and eventually back to Dora.<\/p>\n

Maddie remains rather a worry. To cut a long story short, she has been diagnosed (by the excellent and really kind vets in Chiclana) with an auto-immune disease – Plasmocytopenia. We aren't sure quite what that means longer term, as the focus has been on getting her bloods in good enough nick to be able to travel home. We are in touch with the Royal Vet College in Hatfield who are accepting her onto a new trial they are running, but it will be a while till we get her on whatever the right course of treatment is, and to see what happens. All pretty shitty, considering we only lost Scrumpy a year ago, have already had to have Maddie go through a major knee op to repair a damaged ACL and now this has reared its very tricky head.<\/p>\n

So we will see.<\/p>\n

It'll be good to have everyone home next Tuesday evening and to get back to whatever the new normal will be.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, a couple of nice social bits this weekend, a bit of work and maybe even the chance to sit in the garden if the sun stays out long enough.<\/p>\n

As I said – wild!<\/p>\n
