Sweetshop owners suck on their teeth when you show them the A5 ad and ask 'haven't you got one a bit smaller?'. 'No', I reply, 'I'd like to pay you more for the bigger space this will need'. And watch them narrow their eyes as they slowly realise this is indeed, in their financial favour and not a big ask. <\/p>\n
I then spotted the so-called 'Community Board' in the local Starbucks (covered in ads for people offering their services and asked if I could put my carer job advert up there). They recoiled like I'd got syphilis at the prospect, saying it 'was for charitable things only' (hhmm, what like Massage Services and a Plumber \/ Man with a Van that were there already? Wake up and smell the coffee.). <\/p>\n
Then tried the Job Centre – only its not called that any more (oh, so 1980s) and its not local, oh and yes, it's actually a total nightmare trying to register a job on it. You'd think they'd bite your hand off, but they're so confused my their 'new computer system, yes |i see what you mean its actually quite hard to put a job on it that describes what the job actually is, and no you can't limit it to the area you actually want to employ someone in'… etc etc. Good grief. Hawksey had a similar job opening a while ago and found it so diabolical he gave up. Nowawdays you can't even specify the sex of the person you want (hello, it involves personal care for an elderly lady) or they send you endless forms to fill in to justify why you are a filthy sexist pig.<\/p>\n
And then the TNT magazine fannying: Go onto website – tick, decide if am jobseeker or employer, tick. Ah then get mired in ridiculous circle of 'have a job to advertise, describe job, click through to payment, hello would you like to register? Aaaaaaahhhhhh! When I eventually buckled and rang them it urns out they can't accept payment online so a very nice person tried to persuade me I'd now like to pay \u00a3150 for an ad, when actually its \u00a325. That much I did spot as I went round in online circles - the age-old criminal element in those Aussies seems to run deep.<\/p>\n
Anyway – its now 'out there' in various places, and judging by the first responses it seems hardly anyone can read.<\/p>\n
'I like your job – I can work 5 hours a week' – but it's a 30 hour a week role.<\/p>\n
'I want improve English, I like fun' – hmm.<\/p>\n
'I live Wembley' – not so handy for the 3 x a day pop-ins then<\/p>\n
'I am man' – and so not even getting a 'no thanks' as a result<\/p>\n
'I am studying Hair & Beauty and am Enjoying Fashionable Stuff'' – perfect for an elderly care role then!<\/p>\n
And so it continues. One potential tiny Filipina lady so far (yes, I know, the terrible cliche) and we'll see what else emerges.<\/p>\n
