So then – Liz Tinlin knows me quite well as she came up trumps with a cracking birthday treat this week. A veritable triumverate of active madness – perfect for a slightly damp November day in a Sussex forest resplendent with ghouls hanging from treetops and some fetching beheaded ghosties by the car park..<\/p>\n

Activity 1 – Rifle Shooting. Oh dear – despite my 'I've shot everything from an Uzi to an AK47' I managed to lose this one to Liz. VERY grumpy, mumbling 'but it's MY birthday' not quite under my breath as she (rather smugly – go on, admit it woman!) managed to rack up just one mere point under the bloody high score for the place. Maybe they'd only been open a week, I tried to console myself, just as the man told me I had shot perfectly right in the head of one of the figures on the final target. Hoorah? No, sadly though, this was the hostage not the terrorist, so that was another 20 fat points off my risible score..<\/p>\n

Activity 2 – Swallowqing what was left of my pride, we moved onto the 4×4 driving – around a little hilly course covered in mud, trees, scrub and bendy poles to head through. The catch? It had to be done blindfold with the other person shouting instructions from the rear of the car - ah yes, there IS a time and a place for a backseat driver. Cue lots of 'bit left, bit more left, harder left, HARD LEFT NOOOOOOOW' yelling, only puncutated by the sound of the course's poles twanging down to the ground..<\/p>\n

Actually we did rather well, and I'll spare you the fetching shots (because I didn't take any – too busy trying not to wrap the Landrover around a tree) of us in our orange wraparound blindfolds … or the moment I realised there was a bit more course to cover and tried to steer Liz back to it, only to hit one of the huge white crates dotted about… a bit of a louder crunching sound than I had expected, oops.<\/p>\n

Activity 3 – And finally on to – a NEW activity for me – woo hoo. Axe throwing. Oh yes, right up my alley\"P1080450\"<\/a> given how grumpy I was that I'd lost the shooting. <\/p>\n

Take one axe and a target, add in a spot of rage and strop and the result? Axes that fly like the wind and stick hard in the splintering wood. <\/p>\n

Several different sizes of axe later (and miraculously no cuttings off of ears as they flew past our heads) we then moved onto throwing knives… Oh yes, knives, nice sharp ones. Also highly satisfying as they thwack into the target… mmm mmm. A v good day – cheers Liz! x<\/p>\n
