Hmmm, I thought that the 'come and have a blood test every month from now on' annoyance was just that – a blood test annoyance. But no – it also seems to come with a bonus surprise screening for the Paraprotein, so I was a bit taken aback today when the result came in and had more on it than I was expecting.<\/p>\n
The Paraprotein bastard has gone up to 7.25, up a rather hefty 0.9 in just one month. Or a 14% rise in just 4 weeks, if you like your numbers dished up that way.<\/p>\n
Either way, that wasn't what I wanted to see. Logically the numbers are going to go up more and more and to higher and higher numbers – maths works like that – but it's still crap to see it on a piece of paper.<\/p>\n
Plus there were a bunch of measures with the little thing '* HIGH' or '* LOW' next to them, all stuff they measure in your blood like urea levels, creatinine, immunoglobulin A etc etc. And there were 4 of those on my sheet – none way way off where they should be but 4 watchouts nonetheless. Who knows if 4 individual things adds up to a big NoNo or if one of them actually outweighs all the others? Not me, even after 5 years of this crazy shit.<\/p>\n
Now wondering if the trip in Sept\/Oct to Ethiopia and Dubai is a bit pie in the sky or if it might still come off. And it's not really about the 'can I have a holiday or not' question, as that's kind of trivial in the scheme of things – its more the 'how bad will it get and what hideous treatment will I have to go on… and what will the result be?' that punctuates the months a bit more prominently.<\/p>\n
Anyway – they caught me on the blindside just now. Sneaky – I will be more forewarned for the next one. And of course, looking forward to it like a hole in the head..<\/p>\n
